How to write a project manager CV

Show what you delivered, the size and setting of the work, your decision-making role, and how you kept people aligned. “Managed projects” alone leaves too much unanswered.

Recommended structure

  1. Contact details and the delivery roles or sector you target.
  2. A short profile covering relevant project types and methods.
  3. Core delivery, planning, risk, and communication skills.
  4. Selected projects or employment with your role and outcomes.
  5. Relevant training and certifications, with status stated accurately.

Describe projects with context

For each significant project, give enough context to understand its purpose and your contribution. Clarify whether you led, coordinated, or supported the work, and explain how you handled dependencies, changes, risks, or decisions.

Adaptable example: Coordinated [project or workstream] across [teams or stakeholders], maintained [plan, RAID log, or governance process], and escalated [type of risk] so the team could agree [verified outcome].

Another pattern: Led planning for [deliverable], tracked milestones in [tool], and managed scope changes through [actual approval process].

Useful details to include

Make outcomes credible

Describe outcomes in plain language and separate team results from your personal contribution. Avoid confidential client details. If a project is ongoing, say so and report progress or milestones rather than claiming final impact.
