Role-specific CV guide
How to write a nursing CV
Present your clinical experience, scope of practice, training, and professional registration clearly. Protect patient confidentiality and follow the application requirements in the country where you are applying.
Recommended structure
- Contact details and the nursing role or clinical setting you are targeting.
- A concise profile focused on your relevant practice.
- Registration details and current status, where applicable.
- Clinical roles in reverse chronological order, with setting and responsibilities.
- Education, recent training, and role-relevant competencies.
Describe care and teamwork
Use specific but non-identifying examples. Explain the setting, the care or coordination you provided within your scope, and how you worked with patients, families, or the multidisciplinary team. Never include patient names or details that could identify someone.
Adaptable example: Delivered [type of care] in [clinical setting], monitored [relevant observations or care needs] within my scope, and communicated changes promptly to [appropriate clinical colleagues].
Another pattern: Supported safe handover by documenting [relevant information] in line with [local procedure or standard].

- Infection prevention, safeguarding, handover, and clinical documentation experience.
- Specialty-specific equipment or systems you have used in practice.
- Registration, certifications, and training with exact names, dates, and current status.
Tailor without overstating
Match your examples to the vacancy and distinguish supervised placements from employed practice. Follow local requirements for registration and credentials. Keep dates consistent and use outcomes you can substantiate without exposing confidential information.
